History Behind the Edie Bag
The Edie bag was originally introduced to the world in 2006 and since its launch the Edie bag has captured the hearts of women globally.
The Edie bag has become the most iconic bag for the ZYCH brand and continues to be re-defined throughout the years.
Inspiration & Muse behind the Edie bag
Edie Sedgwick, 1960’s underground star, socialite and Andy Warhol’s superstar was the inspiration behind the Edie bag. While modern muse and British actress Sienna Miller brought the Edie bag to life. At the time I designed the Edie bag it just so happened that Sienna Miller was playing the starring role in “The Factory Girl” a 2006 American Biographical film based on the life of Edie Sedgwick.
Sienna Miller has been spotted carrying the Edie bag around the globe, while on holiday in Italy, strolling around London and to pop star Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas birthday bash at London nightclub Paper in 2007. I wanted to design a bag that would capture the Mod influence of the film as well as Edie Sedgwick and Sienna Millers carefree spirit.
The Making of the Edie Bag by Tracy Zych
I originally designed the Edie bag on a seemingly ordinary Thursday evening and ended up working through the entire night until the design was completed around 6:00 o’ clock the next morning.
It was important for me to design a bag that was both practical and playful. To achieve this I started with a classic tote bag shape and then I added a swivel snap/D-ring top closure to mold the bag into a seriously sexy shape.
Next, I chose to leave the strips of leather below the buckle detached from the bag. As a result these strips of leather freely swing and sway making the bag incredibly playful to carry. The bold circle shaped hardware pieces on the front of the bag add a “Mod” touch that was inspired by the glorious era of Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick’s hay day of the 1960’s.
Lastly, the slouchy construction and the use of sumptuous soft leather are the finishing touches that make the bag so special.
